Is counselling right for you?
You don’t need to be in crisis to see a counsellor. People come to counselling when something feels heavy, stuck or hard to make sense of on their own. That might be:
Stress, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
Low mood or feeling flat
Relationship or family difficulties
Grief, loss or big life changes
Work pressure or burnout
Feeling stuck and not sure why
If any of this sounds familiar, counselling can help you understand what’s going on and work out what to do next.
What to expect
Your first session is about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you here, what you’d like to change, and how we might work together. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re ready to.
Sessions are 50 minutes, in person at our room inside Livfit Physio, 207 Dunns Rd, Mornington. Everything you share is confidential, within the usual legal and safety limits that I’ll explain at the start.

About your counsellor
I’m Nick Lines, a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (Reg. No. 87046). My approach is warm, practical and down to earth. I’ll listen, help you make sense of what you’re carrying, and work with you on steps that fit your life.
My approach
My approach is person-centred. I believe you’re the expert in your own life, but sometimes our minds get in the way of living the life we want.
Drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness, I’ll help you notice what your mind is doing and find ways to unhook from unhelpful thought patterns, so you can move towards what matters to you.
I also bring the body into our work. Stress and difficult emotions aren’t just held in our thoughts; they show up as tension, restlessness or a tight chest. Through pranayama breathwork, mindfulness meditation and gentle somatic awareness, you’ll learn to notice what’s happening in your body, settle your nervous system, and feel more grounded and present.

Some people aren't — and that's a perfectly reasonable place to start. Breathwork is there for exactly that person. A 30-minute session can move things that months of searching for the right words sometimes can't. It's not a prerequisite. Just an option.

No. You can book directly — no GP visit, no Mental Health Care Plan, no waiting. If you want to start this week, you can.
-
No. Medicare rebates apply to registered psychologists, not counsellors. The trade-off: you don't need a GP referral or a diagnosis to walk in. Sessions are $150 for 50 minutes ($110 concession). Some private health funds do cover counselling — worth checking your extras cover.
-
Psychologists diagnose and treat clinical conditions. Counselling is different — focused on helping you move forward without needing to map every root cause. Full comparison here →

Honest answer: it depends. Some men come for four or five sessions and feel the shift they were looking for. Others find it useful to continue longer. We work at your pace.

Yes. What you share stays between us, apart from rare situations involving serious risk to safety, which I’ll explain in our first session.
