Burnout Counselling — Mornington Peninsula
Burnout is what happens when you've been running on empty for long enough that the tank isn't just low — it's cracked. Counselling with Nick Lines helps you understand what drove you here and find a way back to yourself. In person in Mornington and online across Australia.
Burnout isn't weakness. It's what happens after years of giving everything.
Most people who come in for burnout have been the most committed person in the room for a long time. They've worked hard, shown up, held it together, taken on more than their share. And then — gradually, or all at once — they couldn't anymore.
The energy isn't there. The motivation is gone. Things that used to matter don't. You're still going through the motions, but the engine is running on fumes and you can't remember the last time it wasn't.
If you're wondering whether you're burnt out or just tired, ask yourself: when did you last feel genuinely okay?
What burnout actually looks like
Getting through the day but feeling nothing at the end of it
Dreading things you used to enjoy
Snapping at people you love because there's nothing left over for them
A creeping sense that you've lost yourself somewhere in all of it
Wondering whether this is just what life is now
"I know what it looks like to be the person holding everything together on the outside while quietly losing the thread. The long hours, the sense that you're running but not going anywhere, the creeping question — is this all life is? Burnout isn't a character flaw. It's what happens when good people with good intentions give too much for too long without stopping to ask what they actually need." — Nick

Not in the clinical sense. But it's real, widely recognised, and responds well to counselling. You don't need a diagnosis to come in.
-
They overlap significantly. Burnout is typically tied to a specific situation — sustained overwork, caregiving, a high-pressure role. Depression tends to be more pervasive. Both benefit from counselling. If clinical depression is a concern, a GP is the right starting point.
-
Not necessarily. Some people find counselling most useful while still in the situation that's driving the burnout. Others need some distance first. We'll work with wherever you are.
-
Yes. Carer burnout often comes with an extra layer of guilt — who am I to be struggling when the person I'm caring for needs so much more? That's exactly the kind of thing worth talking about.
