Men's Counselling — Mornington Peninsula
Nick Lines is a male ACA-registered counsellor based in Mornington, working specifically with men who know something isn't right but haven't quite found the words for it yet. No referral, no waiting list — you can book a session this week. In person in Mornington or online across Australia.
You don't need a crisis to come in
Most men who contact The Clearing Practice aren't falling apart. They're functional — showing up, providing, keeping it together on the outside. But underneath that, something's gone quiet. The things that used to drive them don't anymore. The days feel flat. There's a low-grade disconnection that's hard to explain, even to the people closest to them.
That's not weakness. That's what happens when you've spent years putting everything into everyone else with not much left over for yourself.
Counselling is a space where that changes — not because someone tells you what to do, but because having a real conversation, without fear of judgment, helps you see things you can't see when you're stuck in the middle of them.
You don't have to call it therapy if that word doesn't sit right. You can call it a conversation — an hour to think out loud with someone who isn't in your life, who doesn't need anything from you, and who isn't going to judge or shame you.
Who comes here
Some men arrive knowing exactly what's going on. Others just know something isn't right. Both are fine starting points.
The most common thing Nick hears from male clients:
That might look like:
Constant pressure with no release valve — work, mortgage, kids, expectations that never let up
A relationship that's strained and you can't quite pinpoint why
Low mood that isn't quite depression but isn't quite okay either
Anger that comes out sideways at the wrong times
Reaching for a drink, or something else, to take the edge off the day
A sense that you've lost the plot of your own life somewhere along the way
You don't need to arrive with any of this sorted. You just need to show up.
"I've got everything I'm supposed to want. But I don't feel like myself anymore."
A bit about Nick
Nick didn't come into this work from a textbook. He spent two decades as a creative director — in Sydney and Los Angeles — before moving back to the Peninsula with his family during COVID. He knows what it looks like to be the man holding everything together on the outside while quietly losing the thread. He's been that man.
"I want to help the Dad I was ten years ago. The one trying to do it all and barely holding on. The one who'd lost his purpose somewhere along the way — and didn't even know that was the problem."
He's an ACA-registered counsellor, a certified Pranayama breathwork teacher (Yoga Alliance International), and a mindfulness meditation teacher currently completing the two-year MMTCP program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach (graduating January 2027). He also holds formal training in psychedelic-assisted therapy.
The approach is person-centred and integrative — drawing on principles from ACT and CBT, grounded in mindfulness practice. Practical tools, not abstract theory.
What sessions are actually like
The first session is mostly a conversation. You talk. Nick listens. Nobody's judging how you got here or whether you've left it too long.
Over time, the work is simple: understanding what you're carrying, where it comes from, and what you might be ready to put down. Counselling doesn't require finding a root cause or diagnosing what's wrong. It's about moving forward from where you are now.
Sessions are 50 minutes, in person in Mornington or via video anywhere in Australia.
Men's issues are a primary focus, but The Clearing Practice works with clients of all genders.
Not ready to talk yet?
Some men aren't — and that's a perfectly reasonable place to start. Breathwork is there for exactly that person. A 30-minute session can move things that months of searching for the right words sometimes can't. It's not a prerequisite. Just an option.

Common questions
-
No. You can book directly — no GP visit, no Mental Health Care Plan, no waiting. If you want to start this week, you can.
-
No. Medicare rebates apply to registered psychologists, not counsellors. The trade-off: you don't need a GP referral or a diagnosis to walk in. Sessions are $150 for 50 minutes ($110 concession). Some private health funds do cover counselling — worth checking your extras cover.
-
Psychologists diagnose and treat clinical conditions. Counselling is different — focused on helping you move forward without needing to map every root cause. Full comparison here →

Honest answer: it depends. Some men come for four or five sessions and feel the shift they were looking for. Others find it useful to continue longer. We work at your pace.
-
Start with a free 15-minute discovery call. No paperwork, no commitment. Just a conversation to see if this makes sense.
