Breathwork for Anxiety & Stress — Mornington Peninsula

Breathwork is a structured breathing practice that can help regulate your nervous system and ease anxiety and stress. Sessions at The Clearing Practice start at $50 and suit complete beginners — no experience, no particular beliefs required.

What breathwork actually does

Most of what we call anxiety lives in the body before it reaches the mind. The tight chest. The shallow breathing. The inability to settle, even when there's nothing obviously wrong.

Breathwork addresses this at the source.

By consciously changing the rhythm, depth and pace of your breath, you directly influence your autonomic nervous system — shifting out of a fight-or-flight state into something calmer and clearer. Not through willpower or positive thinking. Through the most fundamental thing your body already knows how to do.

It sounds simple. That doesn't make it small.

"I've tried many forms of breathwork — Wim Hof, Holotropic, various Pranayama traditions. What keeps me coming back to teaching is that it works for ordinary people in ordinary life. Even for fifteen minutes. That's enough." — Nick

What a session looks like

Sessions are based in Pranayama — the yogic breathing tradition that underlies most modern breathwork, including Wim Hof. It's structured, evidence-informed, and doesn't require you to believe anything in particular.

Arriving and settling. A brief conversation about where you're at. No lengthy intake, no forms.

Noticing. Gentle music plays. We start by observing the breath as it already is.

Belly breathing. Slow, conscious, diaphragmatic breathing. Most people spend the day breathing into their chest. This starts to change that.

Activating and regulating. Techniques that engage the sympathetic nervous system, then deliberately bring it back down.

Closing. A quiet end, followed by a few minutes to sit before we debrief.

Who this is for

Breathwork is for anyone carrying stress they can't seem to shake, anyone with a mind that won't quieten, anyone who wants a practical tool for daily life that actually works.

It suits people who've never meditated and people who have. People who find talking about what's wrong harder than just doing something about it. People who are curious and have no idea what to expect.

If you're interested in counselling but not quite ready to sit down and talk, breathwork is a genuine first step.
